Canada's immigration authority has revised rules for temporary residents under "maintained status." Now, if a resident submits a second extension application while already on maintained status—and the first application is refused—their stay will not be extended by the second application. Instead, the second request will be returned and refused. Previously, such filings allowed extended stay (but not work or study rights). Maintained status permits legal stay and work/study under previous terms if an extension was applied for before permit expiry.
