extended a temporary policy allowing foreign nationals on closed
(employer-specific) work permits to change employers or occupations without
waiting for a new work permit. This COVID-era policy benefits those with valid
temporary resident status who have applied for a new or extended work permit
and were previously authorized to work in Canada. Applicants must wait for IRCC
approval—typically within 10–15 days—before starting a new job. This exemption
offers greater flexibility for foreign workers already in Canada.
