Highlight; The UAE’s new Blue Residency visa honors those making exceptional contributions to environmental sustainability with a 10-year residency."
The United
Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced an innovative 10-year Blue Residency visa
designed for individuals who have made remarkable efforts in protecting and
enhancing the environment. This initiative, announced by Sheikh Mohammed bin
Rashid, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, underscores the nation’s commitment
to sustainability and environmental protection.
In a statement
shared on the social media platform X, Sheikh Mohammed declared, “The year 2024
will be the year of sustainability. Today we approved the ‘Blue Residency,’ a
long-term residency for a period of 10 years, granted to individuals with
exceptional contributions and efforts in the field of protecting the
environment, whether marine or land, the quality of the air environment,
sustainability and its modern technologies, the circular economy, or other
fields.”
He further
emphasized the integral link between economic sustainability and environmental
stewardship, highlighting the UAE’s clear and consistent national direction in
this area.
Eligibility
and Application Process
Individuals
who have significantly contributed to environmental conservation and
sustainability are encouraged to apply for the Blue Residency visa.
Applications are processed through the Federal Authority for Identity,
Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. Additionally, relevant authorities
have the authority to nominate deserving individuals for this prestigious
long-term residency.
Expanding
Residency Options in the UAE
Traditionally,
residency visas in the UAE have been valid for two years. However, in recent
years, the country has introduced several long-term residency options to
attract and retain talent across various fields.
Golden
Visas (2019): A 10-year residency targeting investors, entrepreneurs,
scientists, exceptional students and graduates, and humanitarian leaders.
Green Visas
(2022): A five-year residency aimed at skilled professionals, freelancers,
investors, and entrepreneurs.
The
introduction of the Blue Residency visa adds another layer to the UAE’s
residency programs, this time focusing on environmental guardians and
sustainability experts.
This move
aligns with the UAE’s broader vision of fostering a sustainable and innovative
economy while recognizing and rewarding individuals who contribute to the
preservation and enhancement of the environment.
