The latest data from the Government of Canada offers valuable insights into the profiles of individuals who received Express Entry Invitations to Apply (ITAs) between January and September 2023. In this period, 53,455 ITAs were issued, supplemented by an additional 9,173 in October. Express Entry manages candidates in various programs, including the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP), Canadian Experience Class (CEC), and a segment of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
The data indicates that CEC candidates in their twenties, particularly those working as software engineers and intending to live in Ontario, are the most likely to receive an ITA. In the first nine months of 2023, the majority of ITAs were awarded to CEC candidates, followed by FSWP and PNP candidates. Notably, candidates with a provincial nomination receive an additional 600 CRS points.
Top occupations that received the most ITAs include software engineers and designers, computer programmers, financial auditors, and accountants. The majority of candidates had CRS scores between 451-500, with younger candidates (aged 19-29) receiving the highest number of ITAs. The significance of age in immigrant labor market integration is underscored by Statistics Canada research, which influenced IRCC’s CRS scoring system
Ontario led in the number of ITAs, followed by British Columbia and Alberta. While the number of ITAs in 2023 surpasses 2022 figures, it falls short of 2021 levels, attributed to the pandemic’s impact. Looking ahead, IRCC aims for 110,770 permanent resident admissions through Express Entry in 2024, increasing to 117,500 annually in 2025 and 2026. It’s important to note that the number of ITAs tends to be lower than admissions, as successful candidates can include their partners and children in the immigration process.
