In response to the long waiting times for US visas faced by Indian applicants, the US Consulate in Frankfurt, Germany, has introduced a special window for visa interviews.

This initiative is particularly beneficial for those seeking B1 (Business) and B2 (Tourist) visas. Currently, visa seekers in Indian cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata are experiencing waiting periods ranging from 441 to 607 days for interviews.

The demand for US visas in India has led to a significant backlog, prompting the US to offer interview options outside of India, such as in Bangkok, Thailand. Efforts are also underway to address issues related to the scheduling portal for non-immigrant visa interviews in India.

Recent discussions between US Embassy officials and Indian authorities have highlighted concerns about visa waiting times, technical problems with the scheduling portal, and student visa issues. Notably, the US has made a permanent change to F and M student visas, allowing them to be issued up to 365 days in advance from the program’s start date.

Overall, these developments aim to reduce waiting times and streamline the US visa application process for Indian applicants, particularly for B1/B2 visas and student visas. As Covid levels return to pre-existing norms, the US is working to make the visa application experience more efficient for Indians.
